Police: Security Guard Shot and Killed Near University of Illinois Chicago Campus, How Happened?

WFCN – Following a fatal gunshot early on Monday morning, Chicago police were gathering evidence in the street, including over a dozen round shells.

The University of Illinois Chicago athletic fields, which were empty at the time of the incident, are located in the 1400-block of South Morgan Street, just across from where the shooting occurred.

The Benford security agency verified that the apparent target was one of their workers, a father and 44-year-old security guard who works at the BJ Wright Court flats, a housing complex across the street.

Lauro Lopez, an employee of ABC7, was awakened just after 4 a.m. He lives close to the shooting site.

Numerous cars parked on the roadway close to the shooting site were hit by bullets. The security guard was shot multiple times in the torso, according to the police, and was declared dead at the site.

They have no idea how many gunmen were involved or why the security guard might have been their target. However, a few neighbors are worried.

“The summer has here. I’m scared it will get worse,” said Lisa Ludwig, a neighbor.
The gunmen, according to the police, drove away in a dark-colored vehicle. According to the neighbors, they left quickly and loudly.

“After they were done shooting, I heard a car peel off down 14th Place, going west,” Lopez recalled.
Authorities claim that while Area Three detectives are looking into the matter, no one is yet in jail.
