WFCN (Washington) — A fatal shooting that occurred late Friday night in Northeast Washington, D.C. is being looked into by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
In the 1700 block of Benning Road NE, officers arrived on the scene just before 11:45 p.m. They discovered Darryl Williams, 45, who had been shot several times, there.
He was brought to the hospital, where he passed away.

The man was declared dead not long after emergency medical workers arrived on the scene and made an effort to save his life. He was then taken to a neighboring hospital. As detectives started gathering information and contacting possible witnesses, the area was roped off.
“We are working diligently to gather all available information and piece together the events that led to this senseless act of violence,” said Detective Maria Lopez, who is in charge of the investigation. We kindly want anyone with knowledge to come forward and support our efforts.”

The neighborhood in Northeast DC, which is renowned for its tight-knit community, is in shock following the occurrence. Residents of the region have expressed their dismay and worries about the increase in violent crimes. James Carter, a longtime resident, described what’s happening in his area as “heartbreaking.” “We need to come together as a community and find ways to prevent these tragedies.”
More efforts are needed to address the underlying reasons of the violence in the neighborhood, according to city authorities and community leaders. In a statement, Mayor Muriel Bowser urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement’s investigation and to work together to make neighborhoods safer.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this difficult time,” Mayor Bowser stated. “We must continue to work together to address the underlying issues that lead to such violence and ensure the safety of all our residents.”
