WFCN – After being taken to a funeral home, a 74-year-old woman who was thought to have passed away while receiving hospice care was discovered to be breathing, according to Nebraskan officials on Monday.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office stated that the woman was taken to the Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral facility in Lincoln on Monday morning after being pronounced deceased at a nursing facility at approximately 9:44 a.m. local time.
According to Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, an employee of the funeral home “instantly called 911” at roughly 11:44 a.m. when he realized the woman was breathing. This prompted the authorities to the scene.
The woman, who was identified by the police as Constance Glantz of Lincoln, was given CPR by funeral home staff and taken to a nearby hospital, where she is still alive, according to Houchin. He stated her family has been informed.
At a press conference on Monday, Houchin stated, “It’s a very unusual case.” “Been doing this 31 years and nothing like this has ever gotten to this point before.”

The nursing facility did not need to notify the coroner or local authorities when the woman was pronounced dead, according to Houchin, because this was a case where a death was predicted and there was nothing unusual about her alleged death.

Houchin claims that the sheriff’s office is conducting an investigation and that no criminal charges are pending.
“We have not been able to find any criminal intent by the nursing home but the investigation is ongoing,” said Houchin.
