INDIANAPOLIS (WFCN) —
The NCAA Division I council decided to exclude cannabis product usage off the list of drugs that are prohibited for football championship and postseason play.
The council on Tuesday authorized a number of measures, one of which was letting all staff members instruct players on college football teams, rather than just the head coach and his ten assistants.

Student athletes who have tested positive for cannabis in the past will no longer be subject to any punishments.
According to a statement from Josh Whitman, the athletic director at Illinois, cannabis products “do not provide a competitive advantage.”
“The council’s focus is on policies centered on student-athlete health and well-being rather than punishment for cannabis use,” he said.

Positions like analysts and quality control personnel were only permitted to work off the field in film and strategy meetings, with no other coaches permitted to work on the field.
“NCAA members continue efforts to modernize support for student-athletes, and removing restrictions on skill instruction in football will provide those student-athletes with increased resources to achieve their greatest on-field potential,” Whitman stated.
