Texas Fraud Case: Man Accused of Swindling Minnesota Woman for $100K in Gold Bars and $36K in Cash

Marshall, Minnesota — A young Texan, aged 23, is being accused of participating in a scheme to deceive a woman from northern Minnesota, resulting in the theft of $36,000 in cash and $100,000 in gold bars.

Legal documents in Marshall County state that a 66-year-old woman claimed she transferred funds to an individual in Texas after he informed her that he could obtain her Social Security number. She mentioned that she had hidden the money in $100 bills inside books, which she had sent to two separate CVS stores in Texas.

She mentioned that he had purchased gold bars worth $100,000 through an online platform in August of the previous year. According to the charges, the man informed her that he would collect the gold bars from the exterior of her residence on September 1st.

On that particular day, a phone call came through for her, and a gentleman instructed her to take the gold bars outside and place them in the rear of a white vehicle parked in front of her house. After she complied, the car sped away, leaving her unable to identify the driver.

According to the records, the individual was captured in McKinney, Texas. He was caught on camera collecting the parcels from the CVS stores.

According to the charges, he confessed to gathering the parcels and transporting them to an unidentified person. He claimed to be aware of the contents of the packages and had collected around 40 of them from August to September of 2023.

Documents indicate that he claimed he was forced to collect the parcels and that he was receiving payment for his services.

The accused individual faced accusations of committing two acts of stealing. The accusation of theft could lead to a sentence of up to 20 years behind bars.
