Multiple Injuries Reported: 5 Hospitalized in Early-Morning Dan Ryan Expressway Crash

WFCN – Chicago Investigations are ongoing about an early Sunday morning collision on the Dan Ryan Expressway involving a Cook County Sheriff’s patrol car.

Early on Sunday morning, many lanes were closed; however, they have all since reopened.

The collision occurred on Sunday around 4:15 a.m. in the Dan Ryan Expressway’s southbound lanes, close to the 95th Street CTA station.

Officials from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and the Chicago Fire Department confirmed to WGN News that five victims of the four-vehicle collision were transported to nearby hospitals by paramedics.

Investigators from the Cook County Electronic Monitoring Unit and deputies later claimed that two of those hospitalized had non-life-threatening injuries. The other three were civilians, two of whom were described as being in fair health and one as being in serious condition.

Illinois State Police have reported that troopers were called to a four-vehicle accident, which involved the Cook County Sheriff’s squad car.

The ISP claims that it is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision as well as the series of events that preceded it.

At the scene of the collision, the squad car’s back end was visible to be damaged.

Before seven in the morning on Sunday, the damaged cars and accident debris had been cleared off the Dan Ryan Expressway.
