Louisiana Amber Alert Turns Fatal: Child Found Deceased in Mississippi

WFCN, Jackson, Miss. – The terrible conclusion of a hunt for two Louisiana girls who were kidnapped following the death of their mother occurred in Mississippi.

The 36-year-old man at the center of an Amber Alert, Daniel Callihan, was apprehended on Boozier Drive off of McCluer Road in Jackson following a pursuit, according to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade.

Wade said that 4-year-old Erin Brunett was discovered dead in a forest. Jalie Brunett, her 6-year-old sister, was sent to a Jackson hospital to receive medical attention.

Small animal cages and other indicators of potential human trafficking were present at the Boozier Drive facility, according to the Jackson police chief. Wade said that in order to evaluate the situation, Jackson police had gotten in touch with Hinds County and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation’s (MBI) Human Trafficking Divisions.

The two kids were taken after their mother was killed in Loranger, Louisiana, on Thursday, June 13, according to the authorities, who also announced that an Amber Alert had been issued for them.

Callie Brunett, 35, was reported missing by her parents 24 hours earlier. According to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, her father discovered her dead on the floor of her bedroom inside her secured mobile home on North Cooper Road. Tuesday morning was when they had last spoken to her.

It is believed that Callihan killed Callie Brunett. The Louisiana State Police report that Jalie and Erin were kidnapped prior to eight in the morning.

Wade expressed his doubt that Callihan was the biological father of the two kids.
