Little Village Tragedy: Shooting Leaves One Dead, Another in Critical Condition

WFCN – Chicago police reported that on Sunday night, two persons were shot in the Little Village neighborhood, one of them died.

At around 8:32 p.m., there was a shooting in the 3900 block of West 31st Street. A 23-year-old male was discovered by police with several gunshot wounds. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and later declared dead.

A 35-year-old male suffered an abdominal wound and was taken in critical condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital, according to the police.

While detectives are actively looking into the shooting, no one has been taken into custody as of yet. According to initial reports, the victims were standing on the sidewalk when an unidentified attacker came up and started shooting. Police are asking anyone with knowledge to come forward because the reason for the shooting is yet unknown.

The violence is causing the Little Village community, which is renowned for its colorful and close-knit culture, to reel. The frequent occurrences of gun violence in their neighborhood has left residents fearful and frustrated. A neighbor named Maria Lopez described the situation as “terrifying and heartbreaking.” “We need more security and support to keep our community safe.”
