An essential company that has already closed several stores around the US is now announcing painful closures in Ohio.
Rite Aid is a national drugstore corporation that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on October 15, 2023. Since filing a motion the day after filing its petition, Rite Aid has been liquidating hundreds of shops and attempting to hold store closing sales at 154 sites.
Rite Aid on June 27 filed a notice of additional store closings to close 30 sites, consisting of 16 stores in Ohio and another 14 in Michigan, while the debtor requests approval of a confirmation order for its bankruptcy plan.
Prior to this, on June 21, it had submitted a notice of closure for 22 stores, 12 of which were located in Michigan, 8 in Ohio, and 1 in each of Maryland and Washington.

It submitted a notice of closure on June 17 for 27 stores, 16 of which were in Ohio and 11 of which were in Michigan.
According to TheStreet, the retail giant also submitted four further notifications in June asking to close six more sites.

In June, Rite Aid filed notices of shop closing for 85 sites, 44 of which were in Ohio.
Rite Aid now has 434 closed shops overall as a result of the retailer’s June closures.
Concerns about “pharmacy deserts,” which impact populations with lower incomes, have grown.
Customers will have to travel further to the closest pharmacy location as more of these necessary retail businesses close.
For these people, the cost of commuting then increases as well.
