Arizona Reservation Shooting Leaves Officer, Civilian Dead and Four Wounded: Police Reports

(Arizona) – Early on Saturday morning, there was a shooting incident in the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona that resulted in the deaths of an officer and a civilian and the injuries of another officer and three others, according to authorities.

The Gila River Police Department reports that several gunshots were heard at around two in the morning local time when officers were responding to a big crowd-related issue at a home in Santan, District 4 in the municipality.

Officer Joshua Briese was one of the six persons shot during the incident; he passed away from his wounds in the hospital, according to the police. The police said that Briese was still in field training and had only been on the service for a little over a year.

According to authorities, the shot victim who was not recognized was also declared dead at the site. After being hit, the unnamed cop is still listed by the police as seriously ill but stable at the hospital.

The police claimed that the three other citizens who had been shot were also recovering at the hospital.

As of Saturday night, investigators said no suspects had been named and no one had been taken into custody.

The shooting investigation is still underway, with the FBI now providing support.

Governor of the Gale River Indian Community Stephen Roe Lewis expressed his sympathies to the victims.

We mourn our slain and injured police officers as well as every member of the community who was impacted by such senseless violence. I know I speak for our whole community when I say this. A life cut short pierces deeper than anything else.

We will offer prayers for all of the community members, loved ones, and families affected by this morning’s events, as well as for our police and their families, the statement read.
