Man accused of leaving a weapon unattended is the one charged in relation to Sunday afternoon shooting death of an 8-year-old boy.
Micah D. Stitts, 26, of Macomb is accused of leaving a weapon on a table unattended while many children were present, according to a misdemeanor charge that was submitted to the Peoria County Circuit Court on Monday.
The Peoria County Jail could hold him for a year and punish him up to $2,500 if found guilty. Another choice is probation.

Throughout a hearing at the Peoria County Courthouse at 3 p.m., he was being held at the jail. He was wearing an orange prisoner’s uniform when he was shown on the monitor.

It was scheduled for Stitts’ release and July 10 court date. Additionally, a warrant for his arrest for neglecting to appear in court for a traffic case from 2018 had been served on him.
After being shot in the head, the eight-year-old youngster was sent to a nearby hospital. Police Chief Eric Echevarria stated on Sunday night that the youngster was in serious condition and that his injuries were “life-threatening.”
He told WMBD-TV on Sunday night that the youngster was eight years old, according to Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria. On Monday, the child’s age was misrepresented in a press release. It has since been updated.
