West Columbus Tragedy: Teenager Dead After Motorcycle Hits Van’s Passenger Door

Columbus, Ohio (WFCN) —

After striking a minivan’s door early on Monday morning in the Hilltop while riding a stolen motorcycle, a teenage driver is dead.

Police at the crash scene reported that a 2011 Yamaha FZ6R motorbike was moving eastward on West Broad Street at a high speed when they collided with a 2007 Honda Odyssey that was traveling west.

At the junction of West Broad St. and South Ogden Avenue, the driver of the Honda minivan started to turn left into a gas station without seeing the motorcycle.

The man was thrown through the van’s rear passenger window when the motorcycle collided with it. Joseph Ausmus, an 18-year-old motorcyclist, was discovered dead inside the minivan by the police at 2:46 in the morning.

Authorities stated that the van’s driver was unharmed and that the motorcycle had been reported stolen earlier this month.

West Broad Street is temporarily closed for one block between South Warren Avenue and South Ogden Avenue while the Columbus Police AIU conducts further investigation.
