A$AP Rocky is on trial in downtown Los Angeles on assault charges after reportedly firing at a former comrade and colleague.
The Grammy-nominated rapper rejected a plea deal offered by prosecutors that would have included a two-month jail sentence for the alleged 2021 shooting, and the trial began last week. He might receive a maximum sentence of 24 years in jail if found guilty of all charges. After being arrested in April 2023, he entered a not guilty plea to two counts of assault with a semiautomatic handgun.
The rapper, whose formal name is Rakim Mayers, was born in Harlem, according to the prosecution, and on November 6, 2021, in Hollywood, he shot at Terell Ephron, a friend and collaborator from his early years. Last year, Ephront stated that when the rapper reportedly opened fire, bullets grazed his knuckles. Ephron used to perform as A$AP Relli, and both guys were formerly part of the hip-hop group A$AP Mob.
Ephron took the stand Tuesday afternoon and continued to testify Wednesday morning in the criminal trial at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in downtown Los Angeles on the alleged assaults.
