Violent Backlash: Woman Assaulted Following Guilty Plea in Triple Child Murder Case

New Orleans — After entering a guilty plea, a woman from New Orleans was assaulted in court on Monday. She was charged with aiding a guy who had burned to death his three children the previous year.

Shanyka Phillips, 32, of New Orleans, has reportedly pled guilty to first-degree murder accessory after the fact. Joseph Washington, 30, was charged with arson at his ex-wife’s residence in October.

Three children—a boy, a girl, and an eight-year-old boy—were killed in the fire, according to the police. It happened while the ex-wife was away from home.

Huw Edwards has entered guilty pleas on three counts related to the creation of pornographic pictures of minors 386.

Thursday is when Phillips is likely to receive his punishment. Someone punched Phillips in the face at Monday’s hearing, ending the proceedings. This is the second occasion that courtroom proceedings in the case have been disrupted by violence.

Washington is currently receiving a life sentence after entering a guilty plea to first-degree murder in April.

Who struck Phillips remains a mystery. One individual was given a 24-hour jail sentence for contempt of court during Monday’s session, according to online court records.
