Vietnam War veteran killed in hit-and-run, Santa Monica police ask for help finding driver

Police on Tuesday requested the public’s assistance in locating the suspect in the hit-and-run motorist who killed a Santa Monica woman earlier this week and fled the scene.

The Santa Monica Police Department characterized the victim, whose name has not been made public, as a city resident and Vietnam War veteran. Police said that a motorist going east on Wilshire struck her Sunday evening as she was crossing Wilshire Boulevard southbound at the intersection of Chelsea Avenue. Police were informed by witnesses that the driver had driven away.

According to police, the person was declared dead at the scene when officers arrived at the intersection at approximately 6:40 p.m.

A picture of the suspected hit-and-run motorist and the white Toyota Rav4 they were thought to be driving was made public by the law enforcement organization. As the search for the suspect continues, the police department has released video of the vehicle.

The Santa Monica Police Department posted images of the suspect and car along with the statement, “We are asking for the public’s help in identifying this person,” on X.
