A new program is being launched with the aim of reducing the increasing number of ejections and other instances of disruptive behavior at high school athletic events in Texas.
Two groups in Texas, the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association (THSADA) and the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA), have joined forces with 2Words Character Development to launch “The Texas Way” program.
Here are the three objectives of the initiative:
- Raise the bar for fair play and discipline in all UIL athletic competitions.
- Lower the ejection rate during UIL athletic events.
- Build stronger communities and foster stronger relationships among fans, officials, athletes, and coaches. “Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic…” since
When asked why the organization felt the need to take action, THSCA Executive Director Joe Martin explained that they had been monitoring the expulsion numbers and the behavior of coaches, athletes, fans, and officials since the COVID-19 pandemic.
It wasn’t enough for us to merely broach the subject. Something had to happen, and we aimed for a major, monumental event.

Improving sportsmanship is the main objective for THSADA, according to Executive Director Rusty Dowling.
There has been a hundred percent spike in athlete ejections and a forty-five to fifty percent increase relative to coaches and fans over the past five years, according to UIL Athletic Director Ray Zepeda, who was present to support the initiative’s introduction during a recent summer conference.
