The mailbox Two mainstays of the Los Angeles County suburb, Toluca Lake and its owner, have been linked to Nashville’s largest heroin bust.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the methamphetamine distribution operation between the two cities was centered at the unremarkable mom-and-pop store, which is well-known for offering actors herbal remedies and secure mailboxes.
“We believe that members of this drug operation used addresses of unsuspecting local residents to which the parcels would be shipped and then quickly retrieved right after the delivery trucks drove away,” said Nashville Police Chief John Drake.
Jonathan Kramer, the owner of the store, was one of 13 individuals indicted by prosecutors in connection with the purported enterprise. Three other Californians, including the alleged mastermind Francisco Serrano, who allegedly originated the meth shipments transported to Nashville, have also been charged with Kramer, according to authorities. In November 2024, he was extradited to Nashville.
Kramer was accused of having meth for selling and participating in a meth conspiracy.
FedEx initially notified investigators about suspicious goods shipped from Mailbox Toluca Lake in late 2022. Following the FedEx tip, authorities confiscated almost 260 pounds of meth during the early stages of their investigations. Detectives said the parcels contained meth, and police said suspects occasionally picked them up in rental cars. As they pursued the culprits, detectives reported that other shipments kept going through the business.
Police estimate that the enterprise transported about 5,000 pounds of meth between California and Nashville during the course of the investigation.
DEA Assistant Special Agent in Charge Matthew Daly stated, “This investigation is a prime example of how cooperation with law enforcement partners yields the greatest success in protecting our communities against criminal elements.” “Middle Tennessee is a safer place today because of the dedication and perseverance by so many of our law enforcement partners.”
