Following the impact of Hurricane Beryl, Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Fort Bend and Washington counties will be granted automatic replacement of SNAP benefits to support residents impacted by the disaster.
This action, carried out in collaboration with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), seeks to guarantee that individuals experiencing food shortages as a result of the natural disaster can promptly recover access to essential nutrition support.
In a recent announcement, Governor Abbott recognized the challenges faced by Texans and showed appreciation for the collaboration between state and federal agencies in offering this crucial assistance.
As per the Texas Governor’s Office, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services has granted permission to extend aid to 20 counties, such as Austin, Brazoria, and Galveston, to assist communities dealing with different levels of devastation after the hurricane. Residents in these regions who receive SNAP benefits will automatically get a part of their July allowance loaded onto their Lone Star Card by July 30.
This initiative aims to streamline the assistance process for families facing difficulties in meeting administrative demands during challenging times.

Molly Regan, Deputy Executive Commissioner of Texas HHSC, restated the dedication to assisting families in their recovery journey, highlighting the availability of aid for those in greatest need.
Residents living in counties not included in the list can still ask for replacement SNAP benefits if they were affected by Hurricane Beryl. This shows how the HHSC is committed to helping everyone impacted by the hurricane, no matter where they are located.
