Sylmar residents tackle pursuit suspect running through their yard and hold him until police arrive

On Saturday night, some homeowners took matters into their own hands while Los Angeles Police Department officers were pursuing a suspect in a stolen vehicle who was allegedly armed.

The location and timing of the chase are unknown at this time, however SkyCal was above when the unnamed suspect got out of their vehicle close to Polk Street and San Fernando Road in Sylmar and started to flee on foot.

The floodlight from the Los Angeles Police Department’s helicopter, which was also over the pursuit, followed the man as he ran through backyards and leaped over fences.

He spent a few minutes wandering about the area, going from yard to yard, when he saw two men who were already in one house’s backyard.

Before attempting to push the suspect out of the yard, they were seen yelling at him and waving their arms in what appeared to be an effort to get him to leave.

The man was thrown to the ground by a homeowner who tackled him at approximately 11:10 p.m. Before an LAPD officer showed there with what appeared to be a Taser drawn, another man jumped in and assisted the first in holding the offender down. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Police have not yet released any more details.
