South Korean second baseman Hyeseong Kim agrees to $12.5M, 3-year deal with Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers, the latest in the World Series champions’ offseason spending binge, agreed Friday to a three-year, $12.5 million contract with Hyeseong Kim, a South Korean All-Star second baseman.

Kim receives $2.5 million this season and $3.75 million in the next two seasons, in addition to a $1 million signing bonus. The Dodgers could increase the value to $22 million over five seasons with their $5 million options for 2028 and 2029. The team would pay a $1.5 million buyout if the options were rejected, and they must be exercised collectively.

In 2028 and 2029, he can also receive a $500,000 performance incentive for 500 plate appearances.

Kim was given until 5 p.m. EST to complete her 30-day posting window in order to come to an agreement.

Kim, who turns 26 on January 27, has played for the Seoul-based Kiwoom Heroes for the last six of her eight seasons in South Korea. With a.326 average, 11 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 30 base steals, he set career highs.

Kim’s career average for the Nexen Heroes (2017–18) and Kiwoom is.304, with 37 home runs, 386 RBIs, and 211 steals.

Twenty percent of guaranteed funds, or $2 million, will be paid by Los Angeles to his South Korean team as a posting fee. 15% of any earned bonuses, escalators, and pay from option years that are exercised or become guaranteed would be the additional charge.

The Dodgers, who just won their second World Series in five years, signed left-hander Blake Snell to a five-year contract worth $182 million, retained infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman for $74 million over five seasons, reached a one-year contract worth $17 million with outfielder Michael Conforto, kept right-hander Blake Treinen for two years at $22 million, and signed outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to a three-year contract worth $66 million.
