Authorities in Los Angeles County reported that a methamphetamine overdose inside a sheriff’s station in April claimed the life of a 41-year-old officer.
Methamphetamine’s effects caused Jonathan Stewart to pass away. The report was released by the Los Angeles County medical examiner on April 27. According to the investigation, his death was an accident.
The sheriff’s station was determined to be Stewart’s location of death by the medical examiner. Stewart passed away while working at the sheriff’s office in South Los Angeles, according to an NBC Los Angeles story from late April.

The sheriff’s office announced in a statement on April 29 that Stewart’s passing “deeply saddened” it.

According to the release, Stewart started working with the department in 2006 and completed the academy the following year.
The sheriff’s office stated, “During his tenure, he was assigned to the Inmate Reception Center before transferring to South Los Angeles Station in 2014.” He was elevated to Field Training Officer in 2020 and remained in that role until his death.
Jonathan spent ten years giving back to the South Los Angeles community, and because of his steadfast dedication, both his colleagues and supervisors held him in the highest regard. Jonathan is survived by his three children and his wife.
