On Friday, police detained a suspected vandalism suspect who they believe has been using a BB pistol to shoot out the windows of homes in an Encino neighborhood for months.
At around 3:30 p.m., undercover Los Angeles Police Department units were pursuing the unidentified suspect, which resulted in a traffic stop on the I-405 Freeway close to the Ventura Boulevard onramp.
After conducting surveillance near the 5400 block of White Oak Avenue, where several vandalism incidents have been recorded in recent weeks, police said they were pursuing the driver.
According to LAPD investigations, the individual has been using airsoft pistols and a pellet gun to shoot windows for a number of months, starting at least in August. The suspect was eventually located by West Valley burglary detectives, who then began surveillance on Friday afternoon.
Neighborhood video reveals multiple houses with boarded-up and broken windows, which the neighbors claim were caused by the suspect.
According to Edid Espinol, some of her neighbors have even left the neighborhood due to the ongoing anxiety brought on by the recurring occurrences.
After they moved in a few months ago, the vandal seemed to step up his efforts. “It started escalating, every day was something more and more and then, the shooting of the BB gun was all night long,” she claimed.
Another victim, Patty Hall, claims that her anxiety keeps her awake at night.
“I have PTSD, as does my daughter, who lives with me. We jump whenever there’s a slight sound,” Hall remarked. “He stomps over his floor and then pulls out a blowhorn. After blowing the horn, he emerges from his balcony and begins shooting at my window before sporadically venturing outside.”
The man has been arrested before, according to the neighbors, and the condominium complex’s security has refused to assist them.
