Days before Christmas, on Tuesday, a man was charged with homicide in connection with the deadly stabbing of a 17-year-old Azusa.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, 18-year-old Daniel Rodriguez was charged with one count of murder and the alleged use of a knife in relation to Angelina Gonzales’ death. More over $2 million was given as his bail amount.
Robert Caraballo, her stepfather, stated that his family is speechless. This is their time of grief over the death of a “beautiful soul.”
Gonzales, who enjoyed cooking and music, was a cheerleader at Azusa High School. She had recently joined the wrestling squad at her school as well.
Rodriguez was charged on Tuesday, and Caraballo was present in court.
“I’d rather not speak to him at all. He is not deserving of any praise. “This only concerns my daughter,” he stated. “I’m a broken man right now because I don’t have her.”
On Saturday, the LACSD made an arrest of Rodriguez close to N. Soldano Avenue.
According to her family, she never returned home after attending a cheering banquet. Rodriguez picked up his sister even though he wasn’t supposed to, according to her older brother Ruben Torres.
According to Torres, Rodriguez was his sister’s former boyfriend, and she had received warnings about him from her family. He said that the two were not on speaking terms and had broken up early this year.
A witness claimed to have heard Gonzales yelling outside her house on Friday night. She was laying face down on the floor when she rushed outside, and Rodriguez had fled.
“He left without a shirt on. The individual added, “I got into his car, backed it up, and nearly collided with the car behind me.” “I think they just, they were arguing.”
In remembrance of Gonzales, family members and friends visited a temporary memorial on Monday. Albert Fuentes, her wrestling instructor, was one of them.
Fuentes remarked, “She just had her first competition,” “She participated in her first competition and won for the first time. She was ecstatic and really proud.
The family is organizing their daughter’s funeral while they are still grieving over her passing. Gonzales’ eighteenth birthday was just a few weeks away.
