Malibu couple escapes Palisades Fire weeks after fighting off flames from Franklin Fire

One couple had to practically flee for their lives when the Palisades Fire struck their home, only weeks after the Franklin Fire in Malibu had threatened their life.

Alec Gellis and his fiancée, who reside in Carbon Canyon, were among the hundreds of individuals who had to leave their homes when the fire broke out on Tuesday. The fire destroyed houses and well-known businesses in vast areas of the Pacific Palisades.

On Tuesday, embers and dense smoke are seen flying across his phone’s screen as he flees for his life.

“It was like a vortex of embers,” he remarked. “No oxygen was present. I was out of breath. I hardly got to my car at all.

He just made it out, just as he did a month before when he fought off the Franklin Fire flames that threatened his and his neighbors’ homes.

It simply isn’t real. My lungs weren’t even better than they had been the last time, and it was less than a month. Gellis remarked, “I’m still coughing from the last time.”

Although Kelly Lauren lost a lifetime of her writing, both managed to escape unharmed.

As she fought back tears, Lauren remarked, “It’s just hard,” “I’ve written everything I’ve ever wanted to. I write a lot and keep a journal; it’s the small things you remember later.”

She says she’s glad she and Gellis left when they did, even if she lost her house and her writing collection.

“It reminds me of, like, the value of what is not tangible,” she explained.
