Long Beach rape suspect arrested hours after investigators release surveillance footage

Hours after releasing surveillance footage of a man suspected of raping a woman last week, Long Beach police made an arrest.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, it occurred in an alleyway close to W. 10th Street and Pacific Avenue on Wednesday at around one in the morning. The victim, who has only been described as a lady, was allegedly assaulted by the man who approached her as she was strolling close to the alley.

According to police, the man struck a second woman in the upper body at roughly 9 a.m. in the 1200 block of Long Beach Boulevard while running north on Pacific Avenue.

LBPD Chief Wally Hebeish issued a statement saying, “This heinous crime is disturbing and intolerable.” “I’m urging the public to please review the provided video and help us identify the suspect responsible for committing this crime.”

The suspect was characterized as a man in his late 20s who weighed between 180 and 200 pounds and stood approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. According to the cops, he had medium-length dreadlocks and facial hair. He can be seen on camera walking through the scene of the assault while sporting a black sweatshirt, gray slacks, and black shoes.

Police said they had made an arrest in connection with the incident on Sunday. “Dion Terrell Walton Jr.” was his name.

According to police, he was apprehended without incident after being found in Wilmington’s 200 block of E. Opp Street on Saturday at approximately 12:20 p.m.

Walton was arrested on charges of sodomy, first-degree robbery, aggravated kidnapping with purpose to commit rape, and assault with intent to conduct a felony. He is currently being held on $1 million bond.
