The Federal Aviation Administration will look into a near-collision that occurred last Friday afternoon at LAX between a Delta flight and a private jet transporting the Gonzaga University men’s basketball team.
It occurred on December 27 when the basketball team’s aircraft, Key Lime Air Flight 563, taxied to its gate after arriving from Spokane, Washington. According to an FAA statement, air traffic controllers instructed the crew not to cross the runway since another aircraft was taking off at the same moment.
The FAA claims that after being given the order, the team’s hired aircraft, an Embraer E135, “proceded to cross the hold bars.”
“Key Lime, stop, stop stop,” an air traffic controller said over the radio as the Delta plane took off.
The aircraft immediately came to a stop and “never crossed the runway edge line,” the FAA said. After the Delta flight departed the airport, the air traffic controller let Key Lime Air Flight 563 cross the runway and proceed to its gate.
The incident was captured on video by the Airline Videos Live YouTube channel.
Gonzaga lost 65-62 over UCLA on December 28. On Monday at 7 p.m., they play another game in Los Angeles County versus Pepperdine University.
