LASD’s dispatch system remains down after New Year’s Day crash

As of Thursday morning, the computer dispatch system for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is still unavailable.

According to the LASD, problems with its Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) program are still present and they are unsure of when they will be fixed.

The problem was initially reported on New Year’s Eve at approximately 8 p.m.According to a LASD statement, department officials were “made aware that several patrol stations were having difficulty logging on to their patrol vehicles’ mobile digital computers,”

Employees were unable to log on “with the new year,” according to the department, which rendered their CAD program unusable.

The department is using “self-dispatch while the issue is being addressed,” according to the department, because the system is still down.

According to the LASD, service requests are still being handled and manually logged at the station level.

The matter has been discussed by department captains, as well as municipal and other county leaders. They’re trying to make sure that service doesn’t stop.

According to the agency, 911 lines and radio communications are completely operating.

“The Department is collaborating closely with our LA County partners at the Internal Services Department to find both temporary and long-term solutions to resolve this technical issue,” a statement from the LASD stated.

The department admitted to having long struggled with antiquated technology.

“The Sheriff has underlined the pressing need to enhance and modernize our internal processes ever since assuming office. The Department formally requested proposals in mid-2023 to purchase a new, centralized, modernized CAD system that will significantly expand our capabilities, according to the statement.
