Knock-Knock Job Migration: Ohio Company Shifts Operations Overseas

WFCN –

Roughly 200 jobs have been lost by hardworking Americans as a result of a large Ohio company’s decision to outsource work to other countries.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. said on Friday that it will be moving 175 employees to a new Costa Rica facility near Akron.

While Goodyear did acknowledge to the Beacon Journal that layoffs will occur at its Akron headquarters, the company chose not to disclose how many employees will be impacted.

On the other hand, according to a Goodyear representative, the layoffs will not impact any union personnel.

Relocating 175 roles supporting our Americas business and corporate processes to a new Goodyear facility in Costa Rica, starting in early 2025, is part of our Goodyear Forward transformation plan,” the firm stated in a statement.

According to the spokesman, out of Goodyear’s total of around 71,000 employees, there are over 2,500 who work in Akron. The majority of these people are located at the company’s headquarters.
