Kenneth Fire sparks in Woodland Hills area near homes, prompting mandatory evacuations

On Thursday afternoon, a 960-acre brush fire broke out in the Woodland Hills region close to the 101 Freeway.

Before they could set up perimeter lines, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the fire was rapidly spreading southward and getting rather close to residences.

Vanowen south to Burbank Boulevard and County Lane Road east to East Valley Circle Boulevard were placed under an evacuation order, according to the LAFD. Cal Fire has issued a number of evacuation alerts for areas adjacent to the fire.

Warnings for evacuation:

The fire was promptly put out by a water-dropping plane. According to Cal Fire, firefighters from Ventura and Los Angeles counties are actively working on containment measures. It is burning in a region with sparse vegetation and difficult terrain. Strong Santa Ana winds are fueling the flames.

After the fire scorched 960 acres, authorities canceled all evacuation orders at 8:30 p.m. Cal Fire reports that the fire is 35% contained as of Thursday evening.

Residents in Los Angeles County received a wireless emergency evacuation alert. But it was intended for those who were in Woodland Hills’ order and warning zones for the Kenneth Fire.

The story is still evolving. For more information, check back.
