Early in January, two deadly wildfires broke out in Los Angeles, changing the city forever. Many people had nowhere to turn after the infernos destroyed countless houses and businesses, burned tens of thousands of acres, and killed over two dozen people.
The effects will last for decades as the area recovers from the Palisades and Eaton fires, which were among the most catastrophic in American history. Families and communities were split apart, cities were destroyed, industries were reconfigured, and the environment was altered.
Although it’s normal to feel hopeless and in need of solutions, Angelenos are strong, resilient, and committed to moving on. Additionally, KCAL intends to support them at every turn.
KCAL News has started a project called “Rebuilding SoCal,” which aims to document that process and assist individuals in accepting the loss and learning how to start afresh.
We pledge to support Los Angeles through its triumphs, failures, and eventual rebirth.
We’ve got the people’s back! We’ll make sure to acquire answers and hold authorities and decision-makers responsible. Additionally, by showcasing the heroes driving recovery efforts and those providing support and hope, we wish to recognize and honor the communities that are rebuilding.
