Following a spate of recent break-ins that resulted in multiple homes being burglarized, a community in Irvine is on edge.
A distressed resident of the Groves at Orchard Hills area, which appears to be the target of a gang of burglars, questioned, “Why is no one seeing this on the news, why is no one talking about it?” “Why is it so hush-hush?”
Even though the gated community is only fifteen minutes from an Irvine Police Department station, in recent weeks, criminals have managed to steal cash, jewelry, and even a car—most recently on Saturday night.
According to the neighbor, someone used a crowbar to break into a second-story house.
According to police, this is consistent with a troubling pattern that is occurring throughout Southern California. Two of the four break-ins that were reported to them occurred in Orchard Hills on Saturday alone.
“We feel very vulnerable and violated, even if your home wasn’t directly hit it’s a very violating thing to know that this is happening in your community,” said the woman.
Residents are taking charge of their own neighborhood security while detectives continue to hunt down the culprits, whom they claim are the product of multinational organizations that have been conducting similar crimes around the region.
“Homeowners here do not expect law enforcement or Irvine Company to protect us in our homes,” stated the woman. “That is our duty.” To keep our neighborhood and families safe, we need a multi-level strategy that includes further assistance from Irvine Company, Irvine Police Department, and government officials.
When approached for comment, Irvine Company, the neighborhood’s home developer, was unavailable.
