Investigation launched after Union Pacific train derails in Carson

A Union Pacific train derailed in Carson on Monday afternoon, and an investigation is in progress.

When the Los Angeles Fire Department learned of the event, they sent firefighters to the 20600 block of S. Fordyce Avenue shortly after 1 p.m.

“A train derailment occurred on the Alameda Corridor south of Del Amo Blvd damaging rail infrastructure,” according to a statement released by Union Pacific officials in response to a request for comment. Currently, the Alameda Corridor’s rail access to the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles is closed while workers fix the tracks and get ready to reinstall rail cars and locomotives.

According to train officials, no hazardous items were spilled in the collision, and no casualties were recorded.

Whether the National Transportation Safety Board is looking into the situation is unknown.

Several crushed rail carriages were visible piled up along the lines where the event occurred, and SkyCal hovered above the scene.
