The area where Canal and Carondelet streets intersect is where the shooting happened.
Two days before hundreds of thousands of people converge for the 30th annual Essence Festival of Culture, the shooting adds to the ten-day spree of violence in or around the French Quarter.
Eight days have passed since June 22 in the French Quarter, with two fatal shootings, one non-fatal double shooting, and an attack with a railroad spike on a store employee.
Regarding plans for downtown enforcement, Gauthier stated, “For Essence, we will have walking beats and bike patrols.” “We want to ensure the safety of those individuals and to reassure them of their safety.”
