WFCN –

Thousands in Arizona are now facing unexpected layoffs as a fresh wave of job cuts sweeps through the state, with more companies issuing WARN notices to announce upcoming layoffs.

Over the last seven days, Arizona has been hit by a surge of widespread shutdowns of retail establishments, resulting in a substantial number of job cuts throughout the state.

It is crucial to mention that according to the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, businesses with over 100 full-time employees must give a 60-day notice before carrying out large-scale layoffs of 50 or more employees at one site.

This rule has been put into effect after two prominent retailers submitted WARN notices to the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

Conn’s Home Plus, a retailer specializing in home decor and electronic gadgets, will be closing a grand total of 12 stores across the state, leading to 240 employees being left without a job.

Furthermore, Big Lots, a chain of discount stores, is shutting down multiple stores in Arizona, resulting in 299 employees losing their jobs.

The most recent WARN notice submissions are the newest updates in a string of layoffs that have affected the economy of Arizona in the past few weeks.
