The identity of the woman whose body was discovered Wednesday morning at Garfield Park after a huge tree branch crushed her is now published by the police.
The woman was identified as Sarah Noah, a 35-year-old resident of Southeast, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
A huge branch from a nearby tree fell on someone at the park on 3rd Street and S. Carolina Avenue SE just before 7:30 a.m., according to reports.
Noah was discovered stuck under the tree after numerous first responders, including DC Fire and EMS workers, arrived on the scene. Her life was cut short instantly.

A witness named Nodar Shovnadze told DC News Now that he heard the tree snap, and Noah made a last-ditch effort to flee, but they were too late. Afterwards, a number of individuals sprinted after the branch, but they were completely unsuccessful.

According to eyewitnesses, the terrible event stuns them.
It took all of two or three seconds. Holy cow, that was quick. It was too late to respond. The whole thing happened by chance. Oh my goodness, I am really shocked. “I haven’t figured it out yet,” Shovnadze stated bluntly.
Perched atop the stump of the tree that crushed a woman at Garfield Park on July 10th are flowers.
On Thursday morning, flowers were scattered in Noah’s honor at the site where the fallen tree had been taken down.
