FBI searches LA deputy mayor’s home in City Hall bomb threat investigation

According to a city official, FBI investigators searched Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Brian Williams’ residence on Tuesday as part of their investigation into a bomb threat against City Hall.

The investigation was prompted by a bomb threat that Williams allegedly made against City Hall earlier this year, according to a statement from Zach Seidl, deputy mayor of communications.

According to Seidl, Williams was put on administrative leave right away.

After looking into the threat, the Los Angeles Police Department concluded there was no “immediate danger,” according to Seidl.

In 2023, Williams was appointed deputy mayor of public safety by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.He oversaw the Emergency Management Department, the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Fire Department, the Port of Los Angeles Police, and the Los Angeles World Airport Police. The mayor’s website states that promoting preventative and intervention tactics was one aspect of his job.

In a statement, LAPD authorities stated that “the investigation was referred to the FBI due to the Department’s working relationship with Mr. Williams.” The FBI continues to be the investigative body.

FBI spokesman Laura Eimiller refused to comment on the matter. “No arrests have been made,” she stated.

The story is still evolving.
