Family of woman who died from injuries suffered in hit-and-run crash call for justice, “Somebody’s gotta pay for this”

Justice is being sought by the family of a woman who passed away over a week after suffering serious injuries in a collision with a hit-and-run driver in Long Beach.

According to Long Beach Police Department officers, it occurred on December 26 at approximately 4:45 p.m. close to the intersection of California Avenue and San Antonio Drive.

Despite not receiving medical attention at the site, Nikki Rash subsequently went to the hospital for treatment of her crash-related injuries, from which she passed away on Sunday.

“Somebody’s gotta pay for this,” one of Rash’s family members stated in an interview with KCAL National. “This person needs to be caught.”

According to the police, Rash’s car was struck by the side of a brown Toyota Avalon whose driver had run a red light at the intersection. According to investigators, the driver briefly exited the vehicle before escaping the scene.

Rash frequently volunteers her time at nearby children’s hospitals with her therapy dogs, and her friends and family say she is always trying to help others.

According to family members, one of those dogs is currently also grieving the death of his cherished owners.

Chris, Rash’s son, added, “She’s heartbroken and knows something’s going on.” “She sits at the front window at my dad’s house every night and looks for mom.”

She reportedly volunteered at the Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue as well.

“It’s pretty hard that my father’s having to go through this right now,” said Chris Rash. “It’s just devastating.”
