Eaton Fire erupts in canyons above Altadena

In the Eaton Canyon region close to Altadena, firefighters from Los Angeles County are battling a second brush fire that has a significant chance of spreading.

According to Cal Fire and LACoFD officials, the Eaton Fire was initially reported in the vicinity above Altadena at approximately 6:40 p.m. According to the Angeles National Forest on X, firefighters have reported that the fire was burning upward and has consumed roughly 200 acres of brush.

According to Pasadena Fire Department firefighters, the area’s high wind is making the flames behave strangely and spread swiftly.

Since it started Tuesday morning, a destructive wildfire in the Pacific Palisades, about 40 miles to the west, has burned over 2,900 acres and destroyed several buildings.

The National Weather Service said that some parts of Southern California could see wind gusts of up to 80 miles per hour, with the highest gusts reaching 100 miles per hour. The storm is one of the worst wind storms the region has seen in the past ten years.

The Los Angeles Fire Department has asked all off-duty firefighters to get in touch with their department of communications to let them know if they are available to help fight the fire because the region’s firefighting capabilities are already so overextended.
