Crystal Beach, Texas, known for its pristine shores and crystal-clear waters. The timely intervention of a deputy and a doctor on the morning of May 19, 2024, resulted in the rescue of a person injured by a gunshot, ultimately saving their life.
Deputy Sitton from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office received a call about gunshots being fired at the beach close to Crystal Beach Road.
Upon reaching the scene, Sitton discovered the victim with a bullet wound on the upper right part of his chest.
Without delay, Sitton grabbed his medical kit and promptly started dressing the wound to halt the bleeding. He took charge of the situation, guiding onlookers on how to help, and kept providing initial medical care for more than two minutes until the emergency medical services arrived.

As EMS attended to the victim, Sitton provided assistance for an additional two minutes before being replaced. Dr. E. Santos promptly appeared at the location, supporting the EMS team and proceeding to the ambulance to carry on with the vital life-saving procedures.
Dr. Santos stayed by the patient’s side as they were taken to the triage tent, where he lent a hand to other medical professionals.
As a result of Deputy Sitton and Dr. Santos’ efforts, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office anticipates that the victim will recover from his injury.
