Large corporations in California are preparing to lay off thousands of workers after receiving WARN notifications about impending layoffs.

Based on data from WARN Tracker, California has the highest number of layoffs among all states.

A total of 713 companies in California have laid off about 37,086 WARN workers so far this year.

A 60-day notice to employees and local government officials is required by businesses in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN). This notice must be given prior to plant closures or mass layoffs.

Californians are required under federal law to submit requests for retraining or alternative employment possibilities to the state’s Employment Development Department.

Lots of new companies in California announced layoffs in June.
