Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani dedicated his 2024 National League MVP Award to the “entire city of Los Angeles,” and the World Series champion club will donate to areas in Los Angeles that have been devastated by fire for a week.
Ohtani hailed firemen, first responders, and “all of the fire departments for their heroic efforts to combat these fires in Los Angeles” in his acceptance speech for the Saturday award. Remain unified and strong. We’ll overcome this. Thank you.
Beginning on Monday, the “Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour” will visit neighborhoods impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires, where volunteers and former and present Dodger players will show their love to the people of Los Angeles.
“We owe everything to our fans and this community, and we look forward to a week of gratitude as we give back and uplift those that need it most,” stated Kristin McCowan, the vice president of community affairs and government.
As the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys welcomes animals displaced by wildfire, staff will be treated to lunch, kennel cleaning, and animal exercise as part of the Dodgers community week.
Additional fire relief events include a visit with firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department at Pacific Palisades and a visit to Brentwood Science Magnet School, where Palisades Elementary School pupils, whose school was devastated by the flames, are now attending courses. With the 2024 World Series trophy, Dodgers players will pay the firefighters a visit and express gratitude for their commitment and devotion.
At one unnamed Jack in the Box, a number of Dodger pitchers will be present to take orders, serve food, and greet patrons at the counter and drive-thru.
On Friday, the neighborhood tour comes to an end with a luncheon for senior citizens from Pasadena who lost their homes due to the fire.
The Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour also includes an event for new parents, a Dodger Stadium evening celebration for homeless children and families, and a visit to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
