Chambers Fire burning in Hemet amid high-powered winds battering Southern California

In Hemet, firefighters are fighting a rapidly spreading brush fire.

According to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, the fire, known as the Chambers Fire, was initially reported at approximately 6:10 p.m. near Chambers Street and Gilbert Street.

As the fire approached Domenigoni Parkway, several water-dropped aircraft were called in to help fight the fire.

Because of the significant fire risk posed by the strong winds and dry conditions, a large portion of Southern California is under red flag warning. According to the National Weather Service, winds of 25 to 40 mph were predicted, with possible gusts as high as 60 mph.
