Boil water notice issued in Pacific Palisades as water quality lowers during brush fires

As Southern California continues to be devastated by brush fires, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has issued an aboil water advisory.

According to the LADWP, the notice is in effect for the next 48 hours in the Pacific Palisades and nearby communities north of San Vicente Boulevard.

“This applies to water that is used for brushing teeth, making ice cubes, and food preparation such as washing produce,” according to the LAWDP’s website.

For drinking and cooking, officials advised using bottled water or boiling tap water. Boil the tap water for one minute, then let it cool.

Chief Executive Officer and Engineer Janisse Quiones stated during a press conference on Wednesday morning that the demand for LADWP has been “tremendous.” They have been pushing their water systems to excessive levels for hours on end, she explained.

The water pressure has decreased as a result of the systems being used more frequently. According to Qui, the water quality decreases as the pressure decreases.

“Please if you’re going to be drinking water you need to boil the water,” she stated.

She urged patrons to try converse water not just in the Palisades but around Los Angeles. As much water as possible is needed by the fire departments and other organizations battling the fires.

“We are fighting a wildfire with an urban water system and that is really challenging,” she stated.
