Family members claim they warned the 17-year-old Azusa High School cheerleader about the suspect, her ex-boyfriend, before she was fatally stabbed on Friday night.
In addition to her smile and passion for cheerleading, singing, and cooking, Angelina Gonzales is recognized for her perseverance after she made the decision to join her school’s wrestling team earlier this year.
Ruben Torres, her older brother, claims that she never returned home after attending a cheerleading banquet that night.
“It was normal, she was with her friends and it was a normal night,” he stated. “Nothing was out of the ordinary with her coach and team.”
Investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, however, claim that she was fatally stabbed later that night at approximately ten o’clock.
Near N. Soldano Avenue, they apprehended the 18-year-old male who was accused of killing. He was a “acquaintance” of Gonzales, according to deputies. According to family relatives, she was picked up from the banquet by her ex.
Torres claims that although the investigators haven’t yet provided them with all the information, they have shown them the video of her entering his vehicle that night.
One of the witnesses described hearing Gonzales yelling outside her house. As the suspect fled, she rushed outside and discovered herself lying face down on the sidewalk.
“He left without a shirt on. The individual added, “I got into his car, backed it up, and nearly collided with the car behind me.” “I think they just, they were arguing.”
In remembrance of Gonzales, family members and friends visited a temporary memorial on Monday. Albert Fuentes, her wrestling instructor, was one of them.
Fuentes remarked, “She just had her first competition,” “This was her first time competing, and she won for the first time. She was ecstatic and really proud.
Robert Caraballo, her stepfather, was also present for the ceremony. He claims that he did all in his power to keep her out of the relationship.
“No parent should bury their child,” he stated. “I’m doing this because I want my daughter to be recognized, her legacy to be recognized and also for other teens that might be going through the same thing.”
Gonzales’ family claims that in spite of their cautions, Gonzales made an effort to find the positive side of everyone, including the alleged murderer.
Even with individuals like him, she was incredibly affectionate. “She made an effort to see the positive side of people,” Torres remarked. “The most beautiful person in our lives was taken from us by him.”
Only a few weeks before her 18th birthday, they are currently organizing her burial. Additionally, a fundraiser is scheduled on Saturday at a VFW post close to the scene of her murder.
