Auto Fire in Ventura County burns near Oxnard as extreme Santa Ana winds return to Southern California

The Auto Fire is a brushfire that started in Ventura County and is being fought by firefighters.

According to the Ventura County Fire Department, it was initially reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Monday night in the Santa Clara River bottom bottom along N. Ventura Boulevard and Auto Center Drive.

Gusts of 20 to 30 miles per hour on average were fueling it, and as early as Tuesday morning, greater winds were forecast.

According to CalFire, it expanded rapidly from 5 to 10 acres, and by late Monday night, it had grown to roughly 56 acres.

In a statement on X, the VCFD stated that the fire’s “forward progress… has been stopped… with 0% containment.”

Several departments’ firefighters “remain on scene mopping up hotspots and working to increase containment,” according to the post. No buildings were in danger, and the fire was limited to the riverbed. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.

From the SkyCal chopper of CBS Los Angeles, it looked like the wind was pushing embers into a number of spot fires.

There were four water-dropping planes present, including a Sikorsky Sea King and a Chinook.
