Arizona’s Workforce Hit Hard: Thousands Laid Off in Latest Job Cuts

WFCN –

More and more Arizona firms are filing WARN warnings warning of impending job cuts, causing a new wave of surprise layoffs that has reached thousands.

A large number of retail stores have closed their doors in Arizona in the last week, resulting in a large loss of jobs in the state.

In accordance with the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), businesses having over 100 full-time employees must give 60 days’ notice before laying off 50 or more people at one time.

Two large merchants have notified the Arizona Department of Economic Security through WARN warnings, bringing this legislation into action.

There will be 240 layoffs as a result of the closure of 12 locations of home furnishings and electronics retailer Conn’s Home Plus in the state.

Another Arizona retailer, bargain retailer Big Lots, is laying off 299 employees due to the closure of multiple stores in the state.

A slew of layoffs has hit the Arizona economy hard in the past few weeks, and these WARN notice filings are only the most recent twist in the chain.
