Another busy travel day expected at LAX as heavy fog blankets airport

At LAX, there were delays due to heavy fog and a large number of passengers.

Long queues of people waiting to check in or board planes, many of whom were experiencing delays, filled the United Airlines terminal on Sunday.

Due to the danger of rain, snow, and tornadoes, extreme weather had already forced over 9,000 aircraft delays and hundreds of cancellations nationwide the day before. By mid-morning, the fog caused reduced visibility at LAX, which resulted in over 110 flight delays and eight cancellations.

Gina Griffin, one of the travelers, was attempting to bring her three kids to Aspen. Her flight was postponed till 1:00 p.m. from its intended 8:00 a.m. departure time.

Road travelers, on the other hand, experienced some relief. With an average price of $4.34 per gallon, down from $4.67 last year, gas prices were said to be the lowest in three years. According to AAA, a record 119 million people will be traveling on New Year’s Day, with 8 million flying and roughly 107 million using the country’s highways.

As one of the busiest travel days of the year, the TSA was expecting a high volume of passengers on December 30th. The holiday travel crunch was predicted to last over the weekend, causing delays and congested airports around the country, despite optimism for better weather.
