According to July 4th Study! Ohio Ranks High in Patriotism

The city of Columbus, Ohio: The latest national ranking places Ohio among the least patriotic states.

Ohio received a score of 43.71 out of 100 on WalletHub’s 2024 Most Patriotic States in America list, which placed it 29th in the United States based on multiple patriotism factors.

Patriotism in Ohio has increased from last year, when the state ranked 31st with a score of 38.65, and it has returned to its 2022 standing of 29th with a score of 40.51, indicating a rise in patriotism.

WalletHub evaluated every state in the US based on a variety of indicators, such as the percentage of adult voters in the 2020 presidential election, the average number of people who enlisted in the military, and the number of veterans for every 1,000 adults. On a scale from 1 (the least patriotic) to 100 (the most patriotic), each was evaluated.

“The most patriotic states have a lot of residents who serve or have served in the armed forces, high voter turnout during elections, and a high share of the population volunteering with national or local organizations,” declared Cassandra Happe, an analyst for WalletHub. The top states are located in very diverse geographic locations, so patriotism isn’t focused in just one place.

Once again, Virginia topped the list of the nation’s most patriotic states, followed by Alaska, Montana, Maine, and Oregon. Arkansas has now been named the least patriotic state for three consecutive years.

At the Columbus music festival this fall, Shaquille O’Neal will be the featured DJ. Ohio’s neighboring states, including Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, finished in the bottom ten.

In the 2020 presidential election, the states with the largest percentages of adult voters were Oregon, New Jersey, and Minnesota, while the states with the lowest percentages of adult voters were Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Arkansas.

The average number of people signing up to join the military is lowest in North Dakota, Vermont, and Rhode Island, and greatest in Alaska, Texas, and Georgia.

Blue states also tend to be more patriotic than red states, according to WalletHub.
