A preliminary 2.8-magnitude earthquake strikes near Monterey Park

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a preliminary 2.8-magnitude earthquake occurred Monday morning close to Monterey Park.

At 10.04 in the morning, it impacted at a depth of 9.8 kilometers, or 6 miles, close to the California State University Los Angeles campus.

According to the USGS, it was felt from Altadena to West Hollywood and from Compton to Glendale.

There were two rather large earthquakes in this Los Angeles County area during the summer.A 3.5-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter in Pasadena occurred in June, while a 4.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in August, around 2.5 miles south of Highland Park.
