In Beverly Hills, a throng approached and trashed an unoccupied Waymo car that was stopped at a red light, the company reported.
The incident happened around 4 a.m. on Saturday along La Cienega Boulevard and 3rd Street close to the Beverly Center, according to Los Angeles police.
Initially reported as a probable gunfire or pyrotechnics during a street takeover, officers arrived on the site.
The LAPD claims that although the perpetrators had already left when they arrived, a vandalism report had been made.
Waymo said it was taking the situation extremely seriously in a statement to CBS News Los Angeles.
“We are collaborating closely with local safety officials and strongly condemn any kind of property destruction. Even though these kinds of incidents are uncommon, Waymo said in a statement that it takes them very seriously and is still dedicated to enhancing mobility and road safety in the cities where it operates.
